"SYNDICALISM."
■lt is stated that one of the objects of the (Wellington strike was to. produce a combination of the Labour forces, which latterly • have been disorganised, and to create n, "syndicalism" such as that which Tom Mann and other extremists are' endeavouring to promote in England. -Mr Ramsay Macdonald, t3w?. leader of the Labour Party'in, the,. Hbuss of Commons, has openly denounced "syndicalism." Mr Philip \3bowden, speaking o-f this new-fangled thing, says that it "believes in fomenting strife because, that feeds the fervour which'' impels the proletariat to action. . . Syndicalism can never do more than, sow •tares anion#, the wheat * which Jigs£ b>?en proved by wise men who knew that the social problem could be sdved only bv a isliw .arid painful process of change. . . . When a proletariat, is: in possession of political power - it is. not futile but criminal to adopt' antj-soeial methods." Mr Haveloek WalSoiv another labour leader of acknowledged prominence, said to a -'Sydney interviewer that if syndicalism meant the getting of all workers into one immense organisation, iriTr.p-Tx'five of occupation, he did not -think it would work.
