AUCKLAND, Last Night. Tlie final swimming carnival in jjcnnccitibn with the Sydney team's yisit to the Waitemata Club was held in the Auckland graving dock yesterday afternoon, .before about ,42500 spectators. The swimming was of a high standard,, and several refcords were broken. Miss Durack, ifche Australian lady champion, put up two* world's records for ladies' swimming. She swam 440 yards'in 6min. 42secs., beating- her previous record by 10 sees. She also swam 50yds in 31secs. M. E. Champion reduced bis New Zealand record from 2&min. to 24min. 39 4-58ecs. A. W. Barry (Sydney) swam 100 yards in 59 4-osecs., and L .Solomons (Sydney) covered 50 yards in, ; 26 sees. .Both times are inside the New Zealand records, but as there is a rule whereby no New Zealand records by swimmers from other States are recognised unless the swimmers have resided in the Dominion three months, the old records still stand. "Waitemata won the inter-club contest with Sydney by 19 points to 14*. V In this contest the races decided on Satwday were the 100 yards and mile, both scratch events. A. W. Barry' (Sydney) won the 100 yds., with L. Boardman (Sydney) second, and L. Solomons (Sydney) third. The mile resulted:— ... E. Champion (Waitemata) 1, C. Welcon (Waitemata) 2, K. J. McQuillan (Waitemata) ■3. Purneli (Sydney) was fourth. Champion won by 75 yards. The three Sydney men in fhs rnre I were hopelessly outclassed.
