TROUBLE WITH SEAMEN
A QUESTION OF POTATOES. {By Telegraph—Press Association.J AUCKLAND, Last Night. Hie seamen of tne steamer Rarawa caused some trouble just prior to the departure of the vessel from Onelvunga for New Plymouth yesterday afternoon, intimating that .unless -something was done with the chief cook they would strike. Mir Rooney (stevedore for .the Northern Steamship Company, attwi secretary'of the branch of tsie Seamen's Union) was sent for, and the seamen, firemen, •and. dhief cook went into conference, the passengers meanwhile Awaiting their pleasure. It was explained that the cook, in supplying meals, gave the firemen, peeled while the seamen had to content .themselves with potatoes in their skins. After a ajreat deal of discussion, a temporary arrangement was arrived at, and the steamer sailed.
