STRIKE IN BRISBANE TO COMMENCE TO-DAY. FORTY-TWO UNIONS AFFECTED. (Recelived Last Night, 9.50 .o'clock.) SYDNEY, January 29. The' Tramway Employees' Union has vpted £IOO (to. the Brisbane strikers, and lias authorised a levy upon members until idie trouble is ended. BRISBANE, January 29. The Executive of the Combined Unions have issued a manifesto that stihey will do al! ,n their power to fully provide hospitals and benevolent institutions. i FIGHTING SPEECHES DELIVERED. (Received January 29, 8.45 a.m.) BRISBANE, January 29. After a procession through the streets a big demonstration was held in the Park, the Union leaders delivering fighting speeches, in favour of strikes. A conference representing 43 Unions last night resolved that the action of the Tramway Company in prohibiting badges constituted- an attack on Unionism, recognised under statute law, unless a satisfactory settlement was readied. In the meani time, a general cessation of work would 1 take place on Tuesday evening. i The result was greeted .with enI thusiasm.
