GENERAL YUAN SHIK KAI IN SERIOUS TROUBLE. (Received Last Night, 9.50 o'clock.) LONDON, January. 2-|. The Times's Pekin correspondent reports that, under the influence of Tich Liang, tihe Boxer leader of 1900. the Mancihu opposition to General Yuan Shih Kai is increasing. Y'lan Shih Kai declares that the position is untenable, and threatens to resign when Tich Liang becomes Ge;:-eral-in-Chief.
Tho Legations view tihe situation with anxiety. Yuan Shih Kai has received a. conciliatory telegram from Wutangfang, removing the impression of .Or. Sun Yat Sen's repudiation of pledges, s , ; j> ' Renter's agent reported that General Yuan Shih Kai had concurred with the Dowager Empress' desire to .■ resumo hostilities. Tich Liang advocates the killing cf Yuan Sliih Kai on the ground that his influence is too great to allow him to leave Peking. Extreme military precautions are being taken to protect Yuan Shih Kai; Reports from Shanghai state that conditions at Nanking are very ■ unsatisfactory; The officers are losing control of thetroops,' and .robberies o.re frequent. Dr. Sitr. Yat- ■ Sen's -followers are - squabbling amongst themselves.
