PREMIERS' CONFERENCE
SAVINGS BANK PROPOSALS. (Received Last Niglit, 8.40 o'clock.) MiELBOUItNE, January 23. The Premiers discussed a letter from the Hon. A. Fisher, regarding (lias Savings Bank, proposals, and regretting the decision of the Conference. He stated that: tlife proposals remained open, hoping that they might be accepted. After some warm criticism, most of the Pi'etmiers considered, thai it amounted to. a decision not to listen, to the States, while the Hon. Mr McGowen expressed, the opinion that Mr Fisher was only sparring for time. 'Pile following resolution was carried:— "That this Coniference expresses its. readiness to - accept , Mr Fisher's proposals, subject to a satisfactory arrangement being reached, which. would give the States a>. reasonable share in the management of the Commonwealth Bank." The Queensland and Victorian delegates vo-ted against the resolution. A motion was carried in favour of holding a National Exhibition.
