The Americans never had a winning chance. THE MASTERTON TOURNAMENT. Tfhe Masterton Lawn Tennis Club's seventeenth annual tournament commences tliis morning, on the local •courts; at 8.30. o'clock. .The courts are in excellent order, and some interesting, sets arc anticipated. Among the TM'ominenrt plavers to be present is Mr G. OHivier, the New -Zealand singles champion, and he is at present in perfect -form. Miss Hartgilii will be Ollivier's partner in the combined doubles. The local champion (Mr G. G. Aitken) is also in fine form, and is expected to put up some good performances. The entries total 200, which is considered most satisfactory, and this should be one of the most successful tournaments yet held here. Tea and raspberries and cream will be obtainable on the ground. The following, players are -requested to be oii the ground in good time to commence play at 8.30 sharp., Owing to the number of entries the committee are going to enforce the rule regarding the scratching of players if not ready when called upon.
