PUBLIC FUNCTIONS.

•It was mentioned at tho meeting of the iMasterton Borough Council this ■week that the people of this town did aot sufficiently appreciate the value of public "functions at which Ministers of the Crown were present. The obvious deduction to be drawn, from tihese remarks is tuat Mastertonians are not built on political lines. Be that as it may, it is in keeping with the fitness of things that when a public institution is officially opened there should be some ceremony of a more or less dignified and .appropriate character. In this connection it has occurred to us that two birds might be killed with one stone, and that a Minister should be' invited to open the new Courthouse as well as the Coronation Halt.
