A MAGISTRATE'S DIGNITY

In the Magistrate's Court to-day, Mr Fforence,' S.M., referred a letter lie had received from the Secretary of the Farmers' Union. The letter drew the, Magi strafe's attention to the fact that at this period of J itiie year the S.M. often order« men 1 Imrnglht before him to clear out to '_ the couptry. His Worship-said he was , not aware that anything of the sort was done by him. He had often told men to go back to their work if tbey were men from the country. T9)e letter also requested tlhe Magistrate in future to discontinue the practice, as there was no policeprotection- in the country. The Magistrate considered this portion of the letter was impertinent, in. telling the Judiciary •what it should do. Any complaints Mhoukl he addressed to the Justice * -Department, not to the Magistrate or * Justices.
