WELCOMED AT PORT SAID SPEECH BY THE KING. Received luus Morning, 1.15 o'clock PORT SAID; January 18. Viscount Kitchener, Sir Francis Wingate and representatives of the Khedive, greeted their Majesties ■when they landed here. A reception was held of Sheiks and chiefs of the Upper Nile tribes, many of whom travelled hundreds of miles to be present. -, Bis Majesty the King, in a speech, extolled 'the chivalrous Gordon and Tewfik Bey's defence of Sinkat in 1884. He said the object q& the present administration was to bring the Soudan into closer touch, with civilisation. Their Majesties entertained at Siiirkat, and reviewed the Soudanese troops, including a Camel Brigade of three thousand five hundred.
After witnessing native dances, the-v returned to the Medina.
