"LEAVE THE TOWN."
Although,' the Fa-rtoers' .Union in, Maryborough was technically -wrong in writing the Magistrate, advising him not to order men to leave the town for country districts, where there is no police .protection, there can be little doubt that the practice of ordering men out of townships is too common among the. Magistrates and Justices of the Dominion. Apart altogether from the illegality of the practice, it is grossly unfair to the country districts that the wastrels of the cities should be palmed upon them. If men: have work to go to, there can, of course, be no objection to a Magistrate dealing leniently with them and advising them to leave for that work. But when hardened criminals are thrust upon the defenceless country settlers, it is time that a protest were entered.
