HOMING PIGEON FLYING
A FEDERATION RACE. An interesting homing pigeon race was flown yesterday from Peranga (the most northerly town' in New Zealand), the event being a "Federation" race between the Palmer ston North, Masterton and Wellington Clubs. The 'airline distances to the various towns are:— Palmerston N.. •tvU miles; Master con, 460 miles; and Wellington 430 miles. The first bird to be wired in to the secretary (Mr Woodlhouse, of Palmerston North), was Mr' Edwards', of. Palmerston X., the handed in time of the wire being 3.8 p.m. The next bird home was Mr J. Dixon's, of Master ton, his wire -be-in e linnded. in at 8.54. Then came W. Drake, of\Masterton, at 4.3 p.m.. and W.. Gourlay (Masterton), I.LS p.m. T'he first Wellington' birds to be wired in were Messrs Clarke's ■and .R-vlandV. at 4.24 p.m. The birds were liberated- at Reran ga-Ranga in line weather at 5.2-0 a.m.. so it will be seen at a fiance what splendid velocities have been recorded. The winner, «n addition to the prize money, gets a "log, in" for a silver shield which has to be won twice, not necessarily in. succession.
