THE WEST WYABCgjI AFFAIR INQUEST OPENED. {Received Last 'mgh.t, 9.10 o'clock.) SYDNEY, January 15. The inquest into the circumstances surrounding the mine disaster at West Wyalong has commenced. It was stated .that the men were leaving work. Tihe usual shot was put in and the men withdrew. Apparently the olid workings were broken into, causinga rusto of gas. Wellington escaped the full force *of tihe gas through being in a cross cuSt. When the alarm was giran a brothner of one of the deceased, who was working in l a different part of tihe /mine, and the manager, with: a relief party, went dowm and found, the Ibodies. • ' . Although suffering considerably ffrtom 1 the effects of the air, the rescuers removed the bodies to the surface. There was a sorrowful scene at the mouth top. The wives of the deceased had to be forcibly removed to their homes.
