There was an attendance of 5000. The wicket is still excellent. Gotter and Hordern bowled. The j batsmen were ultra-cautious. They Would not try forcing shots, and in half an hour notched only fifteen singles. At last Foster cut Cotter for two, and Mead drove him for three. Three hundred and fifty appeared in 374 minutes. With the score unaltered, Hordern accepted an easy return from Mead, w(ho bad batted for 107 minutes. Hordern's wicket cost him 100 *uns. Douglas was next, and Matthews replaced Cotter. ' . Foster was in for 66 minutes before 10 appeared for him. Douglas drove Matthews for four. Then the batting became more tedious than ever. The batsmen simiply Mocked the bowling. Hordern, after bowling 12 overs for 17 runs, resigned to Kelleway, whom Foster late cut to the boundary. At the luncheon Adjournment the , score was 398, Foster 33, Douglas l'J.
