EDUCATION RESERVES

AGITATION FOR SUB-DIIVSION. At a special meeting of the Eketaliuna' Chamber of Commerce, the matter of Education He serves at Hinraua was discussed. It was stated that two of rth.es© reserves, totalling an area of some 1800 .acres, would shortly :be dealt with. The present occupiers, it was (understood, were endeavouring to secure renewals of their expiring leases. The land was of superior quality, and if-sub-divided would provide adequate sections for from 12 to 20 £ armors. This would mean the establishment of a dairy factory. One rim was held on a day to day tenancy at present, and tno ether lease expired on. February Ist. The land would then be definitely dealt with. There was a- general feeling on the part of the settlers in. the Ihnraua that the iland should then be cultup.

| After discussion, the Mayor (who presided), moved that the Wellington Land Board, and the Minister for Lands, be notified of the unanimous d'esire of the settlers in the Ihnraua and surrounding district that these (reserves should be subdivided for closer .settlement, and that they be advised that petitions were being -prepared in support of this, and the Chamber strongly iimpresses upon thte Land Board aaid Department the desirability of thss course of action. This Was seconded by Mr Firth and carried.
