BANKING SCHEME
COMMONWEALTH'S INVITATION TO THE STATES: (Received January 13, 10.15 a.m.) MELBOURNE, January 13. . The Federal Prime Minister (Mr A. Fisher) has announced that the Federal Government desires the States, as co-partners in the Commonwealtn . banking ••'scheme; to have' a controlling .-.interest, besides sharing the i*espdnsibility and profit.. If States decide to throw their "Savings Banks into; the 'Commonwealth institution their "■'■■• per cent, indebtedness to Savings Banks will be at first call. They will he allotted loans from future business. Mr Fisher will suggest that the States will have 75 per cent and the Commonwealth 25 per cent of the new business. The matter will be discussed at the Premiers' conference.
