BARTON BROS.' CIRCUS
ON TUESDAY;NEXT. v ; Residents of Masterton. and district will be pleased to learn that Barton Bros.' well-known circus, which has been, touring the Doroindon with such great success, is to give a performance in Masterton for one''fright only on Tuesday next, January 16th. Speaking of the- Christohuxch season, the "Lyttelton Times" says:—"lt /was a genuine circus, and the entertainment was received with much approval.by tlhe patrons. Strong men, horses, trapeze artists, jugglerß, clowns, and performing animals made up a strong company, and siome of the turns were really clever. Mounier, and Franz, two strong men already well known in phristchurch, provided a somewhat startling turn called "The Bridge of Death." They formed themselves into'j. human bridge, and a 30 h.p. motor "car, weighing 300wt., was driven over their stiffened bodies. Besides this sensational feat... the men lifted a nunrber of heavy weights and performed various feats of strength. "Silver Queen," a trained Hungarian pony, went through a number of clever and a-musing tricks, and a monkey tsteeplechase was a imbst entertaining feature of the bill. The Alton Trio, in a Chinese burlesque and tumbling act, did' their work neatly, and members of the company gave a good display of figure dancing on- horseback. "Tom Tom," a very diminutive trick pony, pleased the audience with his intelligent maimers, and X,a BeWe Zinda gave a remarkably good exposition of wirewalking. A boy, contortionist and a j liiigh jumping greyhound were other !good item®, and the programme contained a number of attractive supporting turns."
