FIRE AT KURIPUNI.
SIX-ROOMED HOUSE DESTROY- . ED.
A six-roomed 'house in South Roaid, Masterton, o,wned and occupied by Mr Joseph Treader, was destroyed hy fire about thrco o'clock on Thursday morning. Aui 'alarm was. given, and the Eire Brigades tunned out promptly, but the fire had such 'a good hold that nothing could be done to save the building. The fire originated in the front of the house, where a fire had Ikkmi burning -in'the firerplace earlier in the night. Mr Treader was awakeued by a crackling noise, and on getting up he discovered that the. house was filled with smoke. His family, who were fortunately sleeping in one room, effected their escape through a window. A sewing machine, chest of drawers, and one or two small things were the only articles . saved. The building was insured in the United office (Mr Crm'ckshank agent) for £225, and the furniture in the Royal office (Mr Chennells agent) for £75. Several of the fire alarms were broken after the first alarm was given, Which caused the Fire- Brigade some annoyance.
