i iie monthly meeting of the Mas-j 'terton County Council w'as held yes-1 terday after noon, there being present —Crs W. J. Welch (chairman), D. J. Foreman, J. Miller, H. J. Toogood, I). J. Cameron, R. F. lieetham, and C. C. Kebbel'l. An apology for absence was received from Or Murray. I Messrs Mioorhouse and Hadfield i forwarded plans of the proposed deviI ation of Lett's Road.—lt was decided ito aslv the Govennment to take the road under the PauKlic Works Act. A communication was received from Mr W. S. Short, Assistant UnderSecretary for the Public Works Department, in referene to the expen-, dituT'O of £IOO on the Spring Hill road, intimating that apparently this road had not yet been legalised. Mr James Miller wrote, objecting to the road line proposed by the Department, as it was of no use to him or any. other ratepayer.— The question was held over for consideration at «• future meeting. ■Messrs C'lurrm and McElwain wrote asking permission 'to cut cocksfoot on the Upper Wangaehu and Weraiti Rioads.— The Clerk stated that he had written to Messrs Ou-rrin and McE twain, stating that the Council would have no objection to their cuttiuiig the cocksfoot, (provided they had the consent of the adjoining owners. lhe Commissioner of Crown Lands directed the attention of tho Council to the period which has elapsed since the proposals for the expenditure of third® had be?n made by the Council.^— It was decided that each Councillor prepare a list of the thirds in their respective Ridings, and make application to the ,Government for r the same.

Tlie report- of the meeting ox .the finance Committee, Held in tlie morning, was read, -tlic-re being present— Grs R. F. R. Beetham (chairman), W. J. Welch, D. "\v. Foreman and J. Miller. X'he IVeasurer reported as follows: —Bank, general fund account, dr,, £2BBB 4s 9d; local bodies loans account, or., £O7 15s; accounts, dr. balance, £2SII 7s -3d. T'he receipts lor tlie month amounted to £474 ils sd. Accounts amounting to £2688 18s 5d were recommended for payment. A iletter was read from Mr W. Wool'f, asking the Council to refunu to him the extra cost stated to be £59, to wihicfh lie had been puit in connection with lids contract for the two biridiges at the Northern Ap-ipn-oach to Master ton ion account of tihe difficulty in procuring iroribark ■timber of suitable dimensions for the work.
