Mr J. Brown, agricultural instructor to the South Canterbury Education Board, tendered his resignation yesterday, having accepted a post with a larger remuneration under the South Australian Department of Agriculture. Mr J. G. Gow,'Chief Inspector, under the South Canterbury Education Board, who recently concluded 25 years' service, has intimated his intention of retiring at an early date. Mr Gladstone Ward, son of the Prime Minister, intends entering commercial life in Ghristchurch. Mr W. H. Jackson, who has beon on a holiday visit to Castlepoint, returned to Masterton yesterday, much improved in healtfh. ]Vir G. A. Greenwood, of Damievirke, who has been appointed manager of the A&hburton branch of the Bank ol New South Wales, was a visitor to Miasterton yesterday. The Hon. T. McKenzie left Wellington for the South last night.

Mr Arthur Bal linger, the wellknown rifle shot, was to have undergone an operation at Wellington yesterday for appendicitis. Mr Louis Hint'/, father of Mr A. A. Hintz, director of the Nelson Technical School, died in Nelson On Sundtay, aged seventy-two years, Mr Victor Jukaloff, of Odessa, who is making a study of New Zealand botany and flora, is at present touring tho North Island. «
A Press Association cable message states that Archbishop Wright will leave Sydney early in February for a month's holiday in New Zealand.
Miss Rose M'Dona Id (states a Press Association message from Napier) has been apixiinted Matron of Napier Hospital. Site is at present Matron at tho Dunedin Maternity Hospital, and was previously for six months ActingMatron at the Dunedin General Hospital.
Mrs Donald l>onald, of Masterton, has been seriously ill. She is at Nurse White's Priva;to Hospital, and will be there until Saturday, u'lien she hopes to bo sufficiently recovered to go to Pihautca, whero she will stay with Mrs Bidw.il].
Mr E. Troy, who has been manager of' tho Commercial Hotel at Pahiatua for tho hu.it, ten years, 'has left for Hastings. Prior to his departure, he received «i presentation of a purse of sovereigns fmm « number of friends.
Advices from Dannevirke show that, Mr and Mrs \V. J. Mason, who sustained serious injuries in a motor accident on Sunday, are progressing satisfactorily.
