rtEW WAIRARAPA BATTALION. In order to obtain, a more efficient distribution of the troops, it has been decided by the Defence authorities to detach from itihe Fifth. Regiment, N.iZ.'l. '(WelMnigton. Rifles) the two companies at the Butt and Bs*one, and place them on. the estabhshmient of t-lie second' baitta.llion of the Ninth (East Coast) Regiment, the headquarters of wlifi-tth are at Napier. The Ninftlh wdl now iniclude fifteen/ companies, eight of whiidli will' fo'rm tlhe first battadfcn at Napier, aind the otflier seveiv, including Butt and Petone, the second battalion, with, hiead>quarters at Greytown, under Major A. B. Charters.. The Fifth Riegitaeat will consist of a single battalion of eight companies, and be attached oiv mc'tii'iiisatwm- to the Wellington Coast Defence command u.n~ dor Cbtatel G. F. C. Campbell 1 , the Coast Defence -commander.
