Giving evidence at the New South Wiales Totalisator Uoamniaaibn, Mr Glover, M.P., said that in his opinion the racing diuh* deliberately brought into disrepute the bookmak-iug-fraternity. as a. whole 'iii order to get the betting profits' into their own ■hands. He- favoured both tlhe tote and bookmakers. Pressed to say wilwch he would have if he hadl to make a choice, Mr Glo* ver admitted that the racing public wanted the totalisator. He believed if the qucisiSiifjm was submitted to a referendum both wou'H. be aboMied. Asked did the ttotalisator favour tihe horse owners, Mir Glover- replied "No." Asked why these horse-owners' favoured the toitalSsator, he said that certain, big men would rather take less odds from the totalisator thaw be wiiith the bookmaker. The chaii-man stated that lie had received a cable message from Sir Rupert Clarke, one of the leading racing men in 'Australia, stating that he intended to advocate the introduction of the totalisator.
