The Dlavis< Oup contest was. continued today, at Lancaster Pairk, when the douible match, was played between Brookes and IXmlop' (Australasia), and Betalte Wlrigiht aiud McLaughlin (American). Before tie defeat of Larned by Heath yesterday, this match was tooked uponi as a deciding factor in the contest, it being generally understood that wihoever worn thfe doubles would win. the rubber. Furthermore, it was. generally conceded that tihe doubles event was the most open, of tie whole series of fire matches, and that it would be a matter of extreme difficulty te> predict) with any d'egree of pr'ec&sion who would, be the winners.. Interest in, t.he doubles was also intensified owing to thie fact th'at' it was. the onfly event in tihe contest in. which the young American player, McLaughlin, was to appear, and it'is McLaughlin's fast play which has aroused' especM interest.
