Mr Hugh MaclEay, who.is leaving Martinlborough for Makori, was presented by his friends last week with n (handsome gold watch, suitably inscribed.
The dearth is announced of Mr G. C. HiH, who for twenty years was town clerk of the borough of Feilding. Pastor Ries, of Danneyirke, was to. have conducted services in the Lutheran Camrch at Mauriceville yesterday. A very old and highly-respected resi- i dent of Mastexton, in the person of Mr Cornelius Dixon, passed away at i Takapuna on Thursday at the age of 81 years. The late gentleman, when in this district, resided at the Upper. Rain, where he owned a small farm. He was a prominent member of the Royal Veterans'. Association, having seen service in the navy for a. number of years, joining H.M.S. Banshee in 1859. Deceased,; was an ardent advooate of total abianence, and had a splendid physique. The deceased leaves a widW to whom the sympathy of a large circle of friends will be extended. The death occurred on Saturday morning of Mr James Ewington, of Masterton. The- deceased gentleman, who was 77 years of age, was born in .Hartfordshire, England, and eoroo 1o New Zealand in 1874 in the ship Winimington, and took up his residence in Masterton in the same year. Some 33 years ago he founded the business now carried on by.Mr J. C, Ewington. For the past 20 years he had been an invalid, and his deaith was not unexpected. The late Mr Ewington leaves two daughters and four, sons (Mesdames F.' McCnrcly, of Nelson, and H. Evans, of Masterton. ukl Messrs J. C. H. L., C. A., and R. J. Ewington).' The deceased's wife predeceased him two years' ago. ' The funeral will take place this afternoon.

Newton has resigned the position of harbourmaster at New Plymouth. It is his intention of settling in Auckland. The. presentation was! 1 made by Miss Evans; It is announced' that Mr David has been appointed manager of the Union Bank at Wellington,,", and that Mr G. E. Mannerihg has been appointed manager of the Union Bank ;i>t Napier.
