In the House of Commons during the Finance Bill debate, Mr Chamberlain complained that the House had not discussed finance for three years. Mr Lloyd-George replied that economy was not a popular subject.
LITTLE HOPE OF REDUCTION

j Mr Lloyd-George, in the House of l Commons, said there was little hope of any reduction in expenditure in uhe House of Commons which alone coiiid effect economy. They were always pressed for greater expenditure. ' If Parliament wanted economy it must mould its, foreign policy in such a way to raider an increase of armaments unnecessary. The Government 'hoped to reduce the National Debt by £10,500,000 r his year. making a reduction of £80,000,000 during its tenure of offu.o.
