A Sydney announces ibe death of R. Duff, the well-known international cricketer. He hatl been ailing for some time. " "'» ■

The death is announced, at the, age of 44 years, of Mr William Jarces Geddes Wells, of Waitara. 'Hie. late Mr Wells was prominent in athletic circles. At on© time he was an energetic member of the Waitaia Rowing Club, the Waitara Cricket Club (of which he was one of the recognised best bowlers) and the Olifton Football Club. As &. footballer he was very successful; besides representing h s club for many years, he was a member of both the Taranaki and Mow Zealand fifteens. At the annual meeting of the Auckland Stock exchange on Tuesday, Mr G. A. Buttle was elected pr?;iident for the ensuing year. Mr Har man Reeves has, states a. Press Association message, been elected chairman of tiie Dunedin Stock Exchainge. Mr Alan Wallace, of Auckland, has been selected as the Rhodes scholar for 1912.

At the meeting of the Wairaraj.a Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday, the Chairman welcomed the new member for Akitio (Mr R. B. Robertson) to the Board, and expressed pleasure at seeing Mr W. Moore restored to health and-able to resume his seat. Mi* Robertson askowledged the yelcome extended him, and said he hoped to he of service to the Board. The appointment of Miss Mary Bagley as matron of the Greytown Hospital was yesterday confirmed by the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The Minister, who has to approve the appointment before it is finally made, will bo advised accordingly. Bishop Nevill, the Primate of New. The death 'occurred at ah early hour on Tuesday morning of one, cf the oldest identities of New Plymouth, in the person of Sergeant Duffin. He served in the Maori war with the 57th Regiment, and saw considerable, fighting. He was 79 years of age.
