• ENGINEER'S REPORT,
The fallowing report from the Engineer was read at yesterday's meeting of the Masterton County Council, the recommendations contained therein being adopted:— OPAKI RIDING— Northern Approach.—Contract No. 237: Building two bridges.—The contractor is bringing the timber work to a close and the contract should be finisher this month, with the exception of-painting. Contract No. 238. —Formation, etc., at bridge approach.—The abutments to the bridges are sufficiently advanced to admit of the road contractor proceeding to complete his coiitract, >and I 'have given him instructions to proceed with the work. Forming and metalling path to the Hospital Road. —I estimate the cost at about £3O. Kiriwakapapa. Road. —Contract No. 265: 14 chadns of road formation, culr verts, etc.^—The contractor has ma le a start -with 'has work. • . ,- ; ... are being .made (o-the • side cuttings and drainage' to ihe Jiftv'ls* ing fl&ts on" the extreme end of the Matahiwißafcd. i'' . . ' I purpose calling tenders for Cootes' road formation immediately, the foundation of the formatrioii being too wet to proceed earlier with the work. WAINUIORU RIDING—
Blairlogie-East Coast Road.—Contract No. 272: Delivering 2010 cubic yards of metal. The contractor informs me that he will be able to get on the ground during next week. I would recommend that the. balance of the metal repairs between Kolmvii and Homewood, be carried out by day labour as the work is" of an intermit-. tent character. Mile posts have been extended to mile 42 near Homewood. It will be necessary to support the stringer bridge at Homewood by constructing a pier m the centre to meet the requirements of the traffic. Some repairs are also necessary to a 20-ft span bridge at Waironga, a two-inch top decking, end the strengthening of a stringer, approximate cost of repairs to both bridgts, £2O. upper taueru riding— Te Ore Ore-Bideford Road .—Contract No. 268: Building additions to Roadman's cottage. I have received a price from Mr Byford to carry out the work for a sum of £47, and 1 would record its acceptance. ' ALFREDTON RIDING— Barton's Line. —Contract N0.,227'. Metalling 33 chains of Road (G.Gt.— The contractor is on the ground ready to commence metalling operations. Alfredton-Tinui Road.—Contract No. 264: 46 chains of formation, etc. The bulk of th.e.formatio?i is opened up, and the timber is being out locally for the culverts. Ttovjrf ißrfrlge.—As instructed I have prepared a design for the spanning of the Ihuraua stream to Mr Davis' property. The bridge consists of a 70ft truss and a 16ft approach span, the deck ibeing built 6ft above high-water mark, t>}je.trusses to lie 10ft apart, and 9ft 4in between the wheel guards.
