MODIFICATIONS IN THE CONFERENCE
DIRECTORS' AGREEMETN ACCEPTED.

LONDON, December 12. Modifications have been made in connection with the railway conference which will tend to the speeding of the work of the Conciliation Boards. Eacli company will settle the incraese of wages and reduction of. hours,, .giving an. answer in writing within six weeks of a. petition of 25 pr cent of the employers of any grade. The Boards will meet next may, but the alterations wilt no operate till July. It has been agreed that casual hands will be paid hourly rates not lower than the minimum-rates of permanent men. The executives of the four unions have decided to accept the agreement of the directors. They regard it as a fair compromise. The meii's leaders are confident of their ability to persuade the employes to accept it.
