MEETING OF COMMITTEE

The monthly meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held on Saturday, there being present •. Messrs Hugh Morrison (President), A. J. Percy, J. 0. McKillop, W. J. Welch,, B. J. Dagg, H. Evans, J. E.

Perry, H. J. Dagg, W. H. Buick, R. Gray, B. Rayner, D. McGregor, G. C. Summerell, O. C Cooper, W. Cooper, G. Shaw, E. Harper, and D. Caselberg. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. M. Janes, W. Perry, T. P. Lett and C. F. Vallamce. ;} Mr R. J. Mclver, Secretary of the 1 Methodist Sunday School, asked permission to hold the annual picnic in connection with -the School on the Solway grounds on New Year's Day.— Permission was granted on the usual conditions.

The Secretary of the Combined Bible Classes of Masterton asked for permission to hold a picnic on the grounds on Boxing Day.—Permission granted on the same terms as before. Mr A. J. Hatha way, Secretary of the Racing Club, wrote,,asking for the use of some of the Association's cooking utensils for the race meeting on j December 21st. —The request was granted. i Mr A.J. Low, Secretary of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, advised that it was not considered that the Society's grounds at Solway would be suitable for fish-ponds, an expert's opinion being in favour of the present site. —Letter received. Mr Arnold Weston, of Palliatua, suggested better arrangements for the conduct of ovents in the show-ring. He proposed that a four-sided board be provided, and that competitors should have their numbers displayed on ia prominent part of their anatomy. The matter was left in the hands of Messrs \allance, Cooper, and Watson, with power to act. A letter from Mr D. Bennett in reference to judging, was received. Mr T. Ronayne, General Manager I of Railways, wrote, stating that the name of Kuripuni was objectionable, and that Purakau had been adopted as a name for the railway station near the showground, hi preference to an, European name. At the same time, Mr Ronayne stated that the Department would be prepared to accept further suggestions as to a Maori name. —On the motion of Mr 0. C. Cooper, consideration of the matter was left over till next meeting.

Mr E. J. Wackrill, Secretary of the Romney Breeders.'' Association, forwarded particulars for the proposed judging of rams at the ram fair, and submitted, the names of judges. It was decided, on the- motion of Mr 0. C. Cooper; that Mr Freeman R. Jackson be advised that the date of the proposed Wanganui ram fair would clash with that of ;Mastertoi, and that 'he be advised to alter the date of the Wanganui fair. Mr W. T. Penny, Secretary of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, wrote, stating that the proposed deputation in reference te Government subsidy would wait upon Ministers as soon as a date was settled. It was added that replies had been received from thirty-seven soI cieties, of which only one dissented. — Received.

The report of the siib-committee in reference to seating accommodation, dog kennels, etc., was adopted, with the exception of that concerning the dog kennels, which was held over. It was decided on the motion of MiHarper, that the Produce Stewards meet on the showgrounds on Wednesday next. The report of the meeting of the Luncheon Committee, at which Mr D. Caselbarg was elected "Chairmam, was adopted. It was decided that Mr J. Shout be engaged as caterer, and that a hot luncheon be provided instead of a cold. The Finance Committee's report was read. This showed receipts for the month amounting to £142 7s Cd, and expenditure £39. 166 Id. A debit balance of £1875 9s 5d was'shown' at date. Accounts amounting to £54 2s Id were passed for payment.
