OBITUARY
MR A. P. RAWSON
Mi" A. P. Rawson, a highly respected citizeuL of Masterton, died at liiils residence an Donaild Street at an ©arty houtr yesterday morning, at tihe age of 64 yeara. The deceased gentleman, was recovering from a long dllnessi, when he suffered a relapse, which ended fatally. . I'Sie late Mr Rawson landed at Auckland .50 years ago 'with h&S' parents, his father being Dr Rawson, honorary surgeon of the Home force© which, came to New Zealand. After some years the late Mr Rawson engaged in farming pursuits, with hdis brother, in Taranaki, and liad many exciting experiences' in those strenuous times. Some thirty years- ago Mir Rawson went to Nelson, where he studied for a surveyor' and passed his examination. After practising successfully in Nelson for many years, Mr Ra.wson came to Masterton. This was about thirteen years ago. He had an extensive practice, atod i&urveyed and subdivided a* large number, of the important/ estate® im> Wairarapa, including JeanV Estate;,Yates' Estate, Lenz's Estate, and Cbl'e's Estate.
Two brothers (Dr Rawson and Mr H. P. Rawson, dentist, of Wellington), a step-brother (Mr .Walter Rawson, Judge of the Native Laud Court), and two step-sisters, -who reside in lEnglamd, five children, (Mrs F. W. Dunn, of Bajlamce, Mm C. E. Rawson, and Messrs Harry, T. and G. Rawson), and a widow, are kit to mourn .their loss, and the sympathy of 'a wide circle of friends ■ivill be extended to them iir itherlr sad bereavement. i MR JOHN CATT. j The death occurred yesterday of Mir John Catt, of Upper Plain,, an jßld .settler of Wairarapa. The late Mr,,Catt was bora in 1816, and would have been 95 years of age on Tuesday -next. He arrived in New Zealand in 1858, and resided in .Wellington, for some, years, where he was, in the service of Mr Sit. Hill, Magistrate. He thou went to Wlraw-eama, wilicire die entered the employ of Mr Buxton-, owner of the Wiiareanua station. Thirty-seven years ago the' late Mr Catt came to Masierton,-purchasing a property on tiie Upper Plain, where toe resided till the time of his death, leading a qwiet liic. The deceased was Beloved by ail who knew him on account of the many acts of kindness he> 'had performed during •his Mfetime. He was married fifty-five years ago, and is survived by a widow and fouir. cßidiLdlreu—Mesdamies J. Yates. (Upper Plain),' G. Smith (Colombo Rtoad), and W. L. Falconer (Chapel Street), and Mr J. R.-Catt (Upper Pla&n)—' all of whom will have the sympathy of their numerous friends. The late gentleman also had fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. MR LEONARD PARKER. The Kaiparoro correspondent of the Age writes:—Mr Leonaad Par- ' ker, the victim of the recent •accident at the Kaiparoro sawmill, passed away at his brother's' residence, Eketahuna, at mid-day on Tuesday. The late Ma- Parker was. a native of Carterton, and members of his family are now well-known residents' of that dilstriet. He came to Kaiparoro ahout ten years- ago, and (has been connected with the sa.wmriilKing industry during the whole of that period, and in conjunction, with a partner— Mir T. Sininex—lias, for some time owned the present mill, at Eaipaoro. Mir Parker nas taken considerable ilnterest in affairs, and in tlhis connection his death will'- leave a gap that will, lie hard to fill. For sonic time he has conducted the Kaiparoro Brass Band, and it ii» largely owing to- hlis' enthusiasm, and energy that the ißfcnid has reached its pres- ( ent state of efficiency. He was always to the fore in assisting in private theatrical's, and his bright and never i'ailihig humour could always lie relied upon to provoke mirth amongst am audiience. Mr Parker was l also a prominent mem'ber of the School Comimittee., and has always taken a. keen interest in school affairs. He has left a wiife and nine young chilcfren, tJie youngest of whom is: only tJiiiirteen' years of ag<', to mouirn their loss. They will have the sympathy of the whole community in their sad bereavement.
