MR HILL'S POSITION.
The position occupied by Mr H. Hilll, Inspector of Schools for the Hawke's Bay Education Board, to one which is the subject of comment among ediu—'caitioni&ts of the Dominion. Mr Hill has become a candidate for Parliament, but claims hisi right to particSpate in political! work, so tog as; ito does not interfere with hi® officniall duu ties. in. this claim he may he supported by the law, for teachers* and other officials of Education- Boards are not regarded as civil servants. OommoiirSense, .however, dictates that if it is imnc-ssiMe for a railway officiail to retain his position and become a candidate for .Parliament, it should be equally impossible for a gentleman iciccupydaig a position) of bciiool Inspector, whose salary is-Ja-rSved from the State, to do so. The matter is one which should engage the attention, of the Legislature at the earliest possible moment.
