[From Our Own Correspondent.] \ TE WHARAU. I Severe thunder and lightning storms lave been- experienced during the past week, and 'heavy fains have fallen lailimost eveo-y day. * During the, heavy tluunderstorm ion Wednesday last at Hrikua-angi station', a flash of lightning struck a bridge and ignited a tree close by, -while a horse which was evidently feeding near received a severe shock, and it was thought for isome* time that it would succumb from the effects. This was the severest thunderstorm felt iu this dis»•fcrict -for many years. Shearing operations in- the district have beeim suspended on account of the a-aiii'. From a she-airing point of view the weather has been (unsatisfactory this season, but the farmer ma'kes up for the loss of time by the excellent outlook .for food -and crops, which should make this season, a record one for .fattening purposes. Mr J. T. M. 'Hornsby addressed a meeting on Saturday evening, in thle Te Whtu-au schoolroom, when a large number of electors were- present. Mr F. C. H. Ootter occupied, the chair. Mir F. C. Ootter bus presented therecently formed Fiat Point Rifle- OLub with, a ibeaiiitilfuly designed gold medal!/ for iccmpebiition during the coming season. Mir and Mrs J: Keep and family, of Te Wiharau, leave thais week for an extended (holiday in> the W'atiroa district. During their absence Mr A. McDonald will manage Mr Keefe's property.
