TUie Defence Bill! prepared by tilie Government 3uas been modelled on the Swiss system. Tlie sdheme will entail a cost of £300,000, in addition to the present cost off defence and police. The first Mine will consist of 2500 permanent imourirted rifles and 25,000 •in' an active citizen force, aged from 17 .to 25 year®. T!he /second line wiH consist of citizens aged from 2i to 45 yeains, wflio have been trained or liave learned to use a rifle.

'llie third l lime will' be a. national reserve, composed of men' from the age of 17 to 60 years, who wliil be callled out in case of grave cies" otnly. Citizens reasonably required for defence wil'li- be trained.
