PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS.

We are pleased to see that Mar G. R. Sykes has- made his position somewhat clearer in reference to we question of preference to Unionist®. Had he stated from the beginning that he wn& only in favour of preference being allowed When it was unanimously agreed to by both parties to an award, no exception could.have been taken to lias remarks. The impression has been created, however, and has been encouraged by the explanationis and apologies* made in his behalf, that he favoured preference straight out. We now gate, from Us remark® at Maurioeville, that Mr Svkes belie-es only in preference to Unionists when '. everybody affected believes in it.
