PERSONAL.

The death occurred on Monday at Wa.ipa.wa of Mr Frederick John Tiften, resident of Napier, and erstwhile of Patangata., aged 83 years. He was bom at Hyde, Kent, in 1828, and came to Kew Zealand in 1845. He brought;: the first sheep to Hawke's Bav in 1849. He acquired Elms Hill in 1859, and held the property up to the time of his death.

Mr L; Ogden, who is leaving tho district, is to lie tendered, a farewell social in the Hamua Public Hall, on Wednesday, December 6th, and a very strong committee has been appointed to carry out the arrangements. Mr .Ogden has been a resident of Hamua. for some seventeen years,. eight of which have been, spent in the employ of the Ballance Dairy Company. ' For eleven years be was secretary of the Hamua School Committee a.nd has always identified himself with, every kind of sport. Mr Ogden has also supplied dance music free at many functions' throughout the district.

The death is announced by Press telegram from Dannevirke yesterday of Captain G. D. Hamilton, aged 76. He was a very old settler in Ha wke's Bay, and was formerly own or of the Mangatoro estate, in connection with which considerable litigation took pi nee between deceased and the Bank of New Zealand

News has Iwen received of the death in Sydney, after an operation, of Mr, James Hay, M.A., L.L.8., a. wellknown solicitor of Timaru. He was expected homo next Saturday from a trip to the Old Country. He. was 50 years of age, and a son of Mr Jjohn Hay, one of the pioneers, who finally settled on a. farm near Temuka in 1866.
