STATE FARMS.
In a. recent electioneeriaig speech in •the lEltham electorate, the Hon. T. Mackenzie said it was Oioped that,' in tlie not far distant, future, means would /be devised whereby the progeny, of dairy stock on the Starte FaiTrus would be .available to eettiJers at reasonable prices; This was.obviously an attempt to influence tihe votes of the Tarainaki dairy-farmers-. But there is' another side to tihe question. If the Government is going to -enter into competition with, private breeders in-the supply of dairy stock, where is the thing going to end ? The next thiing we shall (have is Government stud sheep, and horses', and pigs, Government freezing works, and 1 , (who knows ?) Government dairies. And what is to become of those who have expended large sums of money in- establishing dairy, sheep, and other stud herds and flocks ?
