CONVEYING MONEY TO A PRISONER.

A somewhat unusual case bearing 'on gaol discipline was'{heard to-day, •at the Lyttd'ton Police Court, wfhei» a discharged prisoner, Charles Bak- • en-, .was charged -with 'having, oaii November 22nd, conveyed! money to a prisoner in tilite Lyttelton Gaol. 'Sergeant Ryan istatted that the accused/ had been aind-eirgoing a sentence of iseven days' imprisionmeait, which expired, yeaterd/ay. After leaving the gaoler's. office, Baker proceeded lailbng the passage to the frortt, and on his way 'he was observed to pass to a feQiowpiisoner, an act ctoartmry to the re>gulations. It was found out that '•the .sum, of 6s had been handed over. The accused 1 had, Ibeen in gao}' previbusOy, and! should have been fully awfaxet of the gravity of the offence. The Bench decaded to convict, and -a fine of £5, tun default one months' imprisonment, wo* imposed.
