MR MASSEY AT WINTON.
On learning of the effort being made by the Premier to dis/coumt the significance of Mr Massey's- meeting, the Ghriistohwrch "Press" telegraphed to tllie Leadeir of the Opposition, asking lukri for his opinion of Sir Josteph's allegations. The paper received tflie following reply ifrom hiim: — ' 'Absolute nonsense. Train opeln to ailll sorts and conditions of men and women, whether supporters of Govenimeint 01* otherwise. No occasion to pack tlhkj meeting; miinety pea* cent of people present were with me politically." The truth is, of course, •that the success, of Mr Massey's ■meieting, and the uncompromising nature, of thie resolution that was carried with rounds of cheering, have seriousily disturbed the peace of mind of the Govern memt and their sup--por tiers, and they are now making pitiably feeble attempts to minimisei'tsi effect throughout the country.
