MATCH WITH VICTORIA
ENGLISHMEN ALL OUT FOR 318
VICTORIA—3 FOR 219,
(Received Last Night, 0.5 o'clock.)
MELBOURNE, November 10. There was glorious weather and a good attendance for the. continuance of the cricket match, M.O.C. v. Victoria. The wicket was perfect. Douglas ar.d Smith continued to the bowling of Macrow and Laver. Smith began smartly by driving well, but Douglas was stubbornly defensive.
Smith was caught iat deep mid-off, after a crisp, attractive display lasting 36 minutes. Woolley, who succeeded Smith, narrowly escaped being run out immediately, Carkeek fumbling a quick rctu rn by Matthews at mid-off.
Shortly afterwards, Woolley played one back softly to the bowler. Iremouger was cautious. He was dismissed, however, in a peculiar way. The spectators thought he was stumped, but lie had played forward and touched a ball, which rebounded from Carkeek's pads on to the wickets—•run out.
With Hitch's 'arrival hitting was expected.
He lifted Kyle magnificently on to the stand for six, and also added two boundaries of the same bowler. Douglas' patience was remarkable. A section, of the crowd jeered at his slowness. He batter 3lirs Omiiis for his 33 runs.
The innings closed for 318, lasting 863 minutes. Details:—•
