MR A. J. BALFOUR
The retirement of the Right Hon. A. J. Balfour, Loader of the Opposition Party in the British House of Oomiraon<s, from aotive politics, wall be a crushing blow to the Unionist Party. The reason given by Mr Balfour lor his resignation of the leadership is that liis health wall not stand the strain of the struggle on the Hbiue Utile question. This May be a .sufficient reason in itself. There is cause to suspect, However, that the reflations existing .between Mir Balfour and a promrinemb section of his party have not been the happiest for some time past. It is difficult to liazard from thd® distance anything like a shrewd gue-ss at who will become the successor'to Mr Balfour.
