In the Indiu&td'iaii Court, Judge Salioles read u, letter from the Hon. Mil Uarmichiaei, officially notifying the existence of tiie. strike, and asking for tiie appointment of a Board to dieail with the trouble.

Judge Solioies directed the constitution of a Board, consisting of rqpresentatavies of the employers and Wwtea-sijclie Workers Uinion, bv Friday next.

If by them tine two sides; have not ruminated representatives, the Court, wliil make the nominations.

-Strike affairs are at a standstill pending the wfliarf labourers' rnee)ting to-morrow, regarding which there is a hopeful feeling.

■Some of the clerks have declined to continue work on the whiirveis. A meeting of the Clerks' Union is to be lield. on Monday, to discuss tiheir attitude towards the strike.

MELBOURNE, November 3

In reply to a question in .tihe Federal Bouse of Representatives, Mr Andrew Fisher said the Government was doing, audi wouMdfr; everything posisibte in the wharf labourers' dtrdke. No matter wh'at the other Governments did, the Federal Government could be relied on to enforce the law.

The Attorney-General declared that tihe State Government could: take action if they so desired. The Oomimoniwealth" Government wtoUM db nothing until it became an interstate disjpjute. An overwhelming majority of the men were opposed to the strike.
