Mr Ross, M.P., who had intended addressing the electors at Woodville next Monday and Pahiatua the following night, has unfortunately been compelled to abandon the idea owing to a throat affection. Mr Ross, if .well enough, will address some small meetings in the country districts next week, and hopes to be well enough to undertake full meetings the following week. The Hon.. J. A. Millar went South last night. The Hon. R. McKenzie has partially recovered from an attack of sometliing resembling influenza, and leaves for Nelson to-day. Mr L. C. Hawke, teller at the Bank of Australasia at Featherston, has been transferred to Wanganui. He will be greatly missed in athletic circles.
Mr E. Crowley is to be the Opposition candidate for Napier at the coming elections, Mr George Nelson having retired some >veeks back.
His Lordship fiiihop Sprott will visit Masterton and Lower Taueru on November 19th; Greytown on November 20th, and F eat hers ton on the 23rd. The death is announced by cable of Lady Colin Campbell, a. well-known authoress.
The death is announced from Hastings of Mrs Wi Te'Tau, daughter-in-law of Mrs'Tai To Tau, of Masterton. The deceased," who was only twentythree years of age, had recently undergone <an" operation. The remains are to 1 be interred at Porangahau. .
. "Sir Joseph Ward left Wellington by last night's steamer for the South. He will leave Christchurch on Monday, and. will speak at Gore on Tuesday evening.
A face very familiar to |ktastertonians will "be. missed in the -death of Mr George Rutherford, which occurr-' ed at Pahiatua. on Thursday. The. deceased, who.. Was better known as ''Scotty," was for many years employed as a rabitter on the stations around Masterton, and was for ia long period in the employ of Mr H. S. Wardell. He was a hand-working.in-dustrious man, of genial disposition and good qualities generally. Years ago, "Scotty" and his dogs were as well-known to Masterton as the Town Clock. Only a few-weeks back he paid a visit to his old haunts, and looked as fresh as a daisy. He was suddenly stricken, and died in the Pahiatua Hospital as above stated, at the age of seventy.
