ANOTHER MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT
ON THE CARTERTON ROAD
(Special Correspondent.)
CARTERTON. LaskNight
Shortly after 6 o'clock last evening, a motor-car accident occurred on the Taratahi-Carterton road, just past the hotel. It appears that a Ford oar, belonging to a Native named Niniua, of Greytown, and in charge of Mr Harold Gooden. as chaffeur, was proceeding to Masterton with four lady passengers and a gentleman. When just pasted the hotel a dog ran under the wheels of the car, and completely locked them, resulting in the capsize of the vehicle. The occupants were thrown out. the gentleman being pinned underneathr By some good fortune the driver managed to retain his hold and this enabled him to switch off the gear. All the four ladies. Misses Wenden, Webster (2) and White, were more or less considerably shaken, one receiving a navty knock on the forehead in the fall, while one Miss Webster sustained an injury to her arm. The gentleman passenger and the driver appeared none the worse for the ordeal, beyond the shaking up. The' ladies were taken- into the hotel and attended to. and meanwhile a car was sent from Hughan's garage and took the passengers back to Greytown. The overturned car was considerably damaged, the body being almost completely wrecked, the engine, however, being little the worse. The broken body of the car was roped in. and this enabled it to be driven to Hughan's garage. It was indeed fortunate that the cbaffenr was able to switch off the gear, otherwise the damage might have been more serious.
