A permanent picture show is to be established at Marion next week. The latest return, from the Masterton dredge is 20ozs. 17dwts: for 132 hours'' working. . '

The committee of the Masterton Borough Council will hold-its fortnightly meeting on Tuesday.

The Featherstori Town Board intends calling applications for the position of town clerk at the princely salary of £52 per annum f A good many farmers of the Wairarapa have given the searing-iron a trial in their docking operations this year.

It is understood that a meeting will be called in Masterton at an early date, with a view to forming a branch of the Sports Protection League. ' Only two cases are set down - for hearing at the criminal sitting of the Magistrate's Court in Masterton today. One of these is a cliaim for main - tenance, and the other a by-law case. Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., has booked the Masterton Town Hall for Novenir her'l3th, and it is hoped that his health will lie sufficiently restored to' enable him to open his campaign on that evening.

The registered rainfall for the month of October at Bush Grove was 1.61 inches. The maximum fall was CI points on the 27th idt. Bain fell on ten days during the month. The rainfall for October 1910 was 1.32 inches.

Speaking to a Hastings reporter, Mr Sam Wood, the Bradford wool expert, stated that this season's wool clip was in remarkably good condition, having the greatest average weight for many years, and growers would get more in quantity per sheep even if last year's prices were not improved upon.

His Grace Archbishop Redwood preached special sermons in St. Patrick's Church, Masterton, on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and administered the confirmation sacrament to a largo number of candidates.

A Taranaki- farmer was recently fined £3 and costs for removing 90 head of cattle over the boundary lino into the Auckland province without'a permit. Under the Act, Taranaki is still proclaimed an infected area as regards blackleg, although there has been no outbreak in the district for several years.

At the Kent or Romncy Breeders' Association's competitions and sale on September 28th, it was decided that two Homo breeders and one foreign or colonial breeder should award the prizes. Messrs F. Neamc and F. A. Bensted and Mr McKenzie (New Zealand) were chosen to act.

Tt is anticipated that the offerings at- tho first wool sales at Napier will total some 400 bales, a drop of 400 odd from last season. The clip is much heavier tlm year than last, and whatever difference there is in the prices realised should l>e more than made up by theextra weight of the wool.

The Ekotahuna Borone-h Cwr.-n has received word through .Mr A. ... Hogg, M.P., that the Under-Sec--hry for Lands has consented to through an Order-in-Council enabling, the Kensington Park and Parkville and Eketahuna Domain to be administered as on© domain. This will enable the funds derivable from the reserves to be expended on any particular one. At present the revenue has to be expended on the reserve from which it is'derived;

A number of important land sales have i>een effected in the Masterton district during t-ho month of October. Messrs J. Eraser and 00. report having sold six different properties, aggregating about £65,000 in value. Included iti the recent sales is that of the estate of 1020 acres adjoining Ofcahuao, belonging to Mr Hugh Morrison, of Awatoitoi. The purchaser was a son of Mr Donald McKenzie, of Wangaehu, and the price paid was £25,000.

The monthly "At Home" in connection with the lady members of the Masterton Congregational Church was held yesterday at Mrs. Mcßae's, when a good number of ladies attended and were bountifully entertained at afterlioon tea. During the afternoon Mrs. W. Joy, Mrs. Donald and Miss Hodge contributed items of song and music. The last "At Home" fonthe year will be held at the house of Mrs' Hendry at the end of the month.

The 1.0. G.T. Lodge met as usual last night in the Foresters' Hall, when a good "number of members were pre; sent. Reports were read for last quarter, which showed the lodge ,io be in a nourishing condition, both financially and otherwise. The following officer's were duly installed by Bro. In the Magistrate's Court at Masterton yesterday, before Mr A. Crooke, S.M., judgment was given for plaintiff by default in the case of the W.F.C.A. v. George Manning, a claim for £23 Is 4d. A case in which Herbert Colo claimed from Richard Coulson the sum of £2O was adjourned at the request of defendant till November 23rd. Mr C. A. Pownall appeared for plaintiff, and Mr G. H. allien for dcfeudant. In the judgment summons case, Alexander Donald v. S. Tuki, claim for*£s 14s, defendant was ordered to pay the amount of the debt in monthly instalments of £l, the first payment to be made on November 30th, in default five days' imprisonment.
