CRICKET.

ARRIVAL OF THE M.C.C. TEAM AT FREMANTLE.

(Received November 1, 8.5 a.m.)

FREMANTLE, November I. Mr P. F. Warner, captain of theEnglish, cricket team, interviewed, said he had a splendid .team of fighters. He coudd not say how they compared with the previous team, but they were the best possible, with the exception, of C. B. Fry and It. H. Spooner. He couldn't say lie thought they would win. but the whole team would do their best. He was reticent about comparing tho merits of the different members of the team. All were good in their different departments. There were three left-handed batsmen—S. P. Kinneir, P. C. Mead, and F. E. Woolley—and they were invaluable to the team. J. W. Hitch was the fastest bowler, and he was also brilliant in the field.

Cricket was flourishing in England. They had had a splendid summer. O. B. P>y was at the top of his form. Although he was forty years of age, he was batting better than ever, bnb le was not equal to Victor Trumper. jHe did not think the triangular scheme practicable under a period of every ten years. Anyhow, it would greatly dislocate County cricket. It was not true that he had had his pockets picked, as announced by cable. The cable was a distinct libel on the light-fingered gentry. During this tour, the captain concluded, amateurs and professionals would stop at the same hotels.

(The team will proceed to Adelaide, where, after a week's practice, they will play the opening match of the tour against South Australia.)
