PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS.
In his address in, Masterton last evening, Mr Ci. E. Sykes made no attempt to explain his position in regard to the question of preference to unionists. At the close of his address at Miki Miki he is reported to have stated that he favoured preference to unionists. If thTe is anything in preference at all, it is that the employer will be compelled to :'.-:-co')t. ih'o services of a Unionist be-
fore that of a non-unionist when
both are offering. Does Mr Sykes support preference in this form? If he does, then he clearly supports o monopoly and a system of coercion. If preference dos not imply coercion, then it is useless to the Unionist, and it would be absurd for any candidate to say that he favoure a thing which is useless.
