PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS.

Some comment has been excited on account of a statement alleged to lia,ve been made in one of the outlying districts by Mir G. R. Sykes, an Opposition candidate, that he was in favour of preference to Unionists. It is due to Mir Sykes and the party whose cause he espouses that- he should make himself clear on this matter. Preference to Unionists is a form of coercipn which is generally condemned as repulsive to Britishers. The fact that, it is popular with a certain section of the community does not imake it any the more just or wholesome. Tyranny in any shape or form is contrary to the religion of the Opposition "party in New Zealand today.
