FAMILY SETTLEMENTS.
The Family Settlements Bill introduced in the House of .Representatives yesterday by Sir Joseph Ward is the first piece of common-sense land legislation that has emanated From. the present Administration. It is really a resurrection of the deferred payment system, with a portion of the present Opposition land policy thrown in. The Prime Minister may, or may not be sincere in anxiety to see such a measure berom? law. The Ells, and Laur-
ensons, and Russells, and Arnolds will tear the thing to shreds in. the
• reoess, and possibly no more will I tbe heard of it. It is significant, however, that Sir Joseph Ward ad- ' mits that the present system of land I settlement is insufficient, and that | he is willing to adopt the view® of the Opposition in preference to I those of his own followers.
