LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.
An effort is being made to prejudice the candidature of Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P., on the plea that during his term of office the Government has not acquired estates for close settlement in the Wairarapa electorate. Everybody knows that Mr Buchanan has vigorously advocated, the acqiiisition of estates in the Lower Valley, and that the Government lias allowed these estates to slip through, their fingers. Everybody also knows that the! Masterton electorate, although represented for yearsi by a staunch Government supporter, lias 1 been absolutely neglected in the way of closer settlement. The Government, in fact, has for years allowed tha Land® for Settlement Act to remains a dead letter. In these circumstances, will not the electors be well-advised to show tHeir disapprobation of the lethargy of the Government, by returning only Opposition candidates?
