WHEN WILL THEY TAKE PLACE ?

THE SESSION PROLONGED

In the House of Representatives yes■terday afternoon, according to a Press Association telegram, Mr Massey asked the Prime Minister if he would, to expedite business, proceed only wich those measures which have been partly dealt with, and not deal with anything further. .^ Sir Joseph Ward said" thore was a certain amount of work to be done, and | he was going to ask the House to do I it, whether it took to the end of this week or to the end of next. It might, he said, be necessary to ask the House !to pass the necessary, legi§latiohV.. -to reriable v place after the middle of January. A*. things were going now, it wias absolutely impossible-for <him to estimate when the elections could take place. At the present rate of progress, the first ballot would take place just prior to Christmas, and the second during /the holidays. There was a en-tain amount of work on the order paper which must be done. He would not drop those Bills which had not been dealt with so far. The present Parliament expired on November 21st, and he would like to say to those members on his side of the House that their I constituents would honour and appre- ' date them for staying to finish, the | business of the House.
